In my work, the way light hits the figure is very important to me. I often draw inspiration from the old precedents of portraiture, such as style, technical skill, and composition from the Old Masters. I often assemble portraits together on large-scale paper, which acts as sort of a mixing board for the figure and contemporary drawing practices. This assemblage allows me to freely investigate space with the figure and light, and at the same time creates a conversation of history and the past.
